2020 has been a doozy of a year for many. However, I was able to carry out something special. I launched Bella Mae’s Tea in May with four blends. So many great reviews, feedback, and of course questions.
- What inspires you?
- How do you create a blend?
- How do you know what flavors will work?
Today, we are going behind the scenes to answer your questions and create a new blend to add to the Bella Mae’s collection.
The Research
Lavender is the superstar of the new blend. Lavender is a popular flower that has many medicinal and therapeutic benefits. It’s a familiar scent and has a distinctive taste. Inspired by its calming effect, it is flower that has been on my list to experiment with. Although commonly used as a tea, it is vital to do my own research into complimentary ingredients, properties, and other characteristics. Lavender is known to pair well with savory herbs such as thyme, sage, and rosemary (yes, the herbs you use for cooking). Lavender is also great for improving sleep, boosting the immune system, and helping with digestive issues.
The Blend
Tea is not just about flavor and its benefits, tea is also about emotion. A Bella Mae’s tea blend is nostalgic and reminiscence. I want tea drinkers to channel a brisk day in September, a long walk past a garden full of flowers, or watching a beautiful sunset on a porch. To trigger these emotions, the following flavor profile has been developed:
- Rosemary – refreshing and woodsy.
- Lemongrass – mild with a citrus undertone.
- Lemon peel – fragrant and sweet.
- White Tea – delicate and slightly sweet.
- Lavender – earthy and floral
Each ingredient can stand on it own but together this lavender tea is bright, bold, and refreshing.
The Taste Test
It’s time to hear from the good people. A group of tea lovers have been selected to sample the new blend. Just because I like the flavor doesn’t mean the good people will. Their job is to evaluate the flavor, scent, and appearance of the blend. It’s important that Bella Mae’s Tea blends are not just pleasant in taste but appealing to the eye, and smells delightful.
The Last Steps
Once the good people have submitted their thoughts and suggestions, the necessary adjustments will be made to finalize the lavender tea blend. A ‘logo’ and blend name is based on the flavor, inspiration, and feedback from the taste testers.
There you have it. The steps taken to develop a Bella Mae’s Tea blend. Keep in mind that every company’s/blender’s process is different. The new blend will be released in a few weeks. I can’t wait to share it with my good people. If you are interested in a sample, comment below. I would love to receive your feedback.
